You may have heard someone quote Proverbs 19:18 which says without vision, we perish. But what exactly makes a good vision, and why is it so important? In this article, we'll examine three examples of the power of having a vision.
During a recent trip to Singapore, I learned about the country's history and was amazed at how quickly it had become a global leader. One of the key factors behind their success was the "Garden City" vision developed by former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in 1967. They started by planting trees along the path from the airport to downtown to hide certain areas from view to encourage investors that were visiting the country to invest. They continued to incorporate gardens into the architecture of buildings and developed stunning attractions like the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay, and the Cloud Forest. Their vision of a green and vibrant city has transformed Singapore into an oasis of innovation and beauty.
Another visionary leader is Elon Musk. Regardless of one's personal opinions of him, his vision of becoming a multi-planet species is undeniably inspirational. He directs every decision he makes towards this goal, whether it's through his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, or his innovations in reusable rocket technology. His vision inspires countless people to reach for the stars and dream big.
On a more local scale, when I was at The LOT Project, the vision was to rebuild the community by turning an old cotton mill into a public market. This vision drove every decision made by the team, including starting urban gardens and building a tiny home to uplift the neighborhood from the ground level. Additionally, a "MakerSpace" was created to train people to make things to sell at the market, all while remaining true to the vision of establishing a thriving public market.
Having a clear and simple vision is crucial to success, whether it's on a global, national, or local scale. A well-articulated vision will guide your decisions and inspire those around you. So, take the time to develop your vision, and let it bring life to you and those around you!
